You can begin as you are

You do not need dance experience to join Unity Waves. There are no steps to memorize and no choreography to follow. Bring curiosity and begin with the movement available to you today.

Illustrative conscious movement gathering in warm studio light

What to expect

We begin with time to arrive and settle into movement. Music supports a journey through the five rhythms: Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness.

You may move on your own, alongside others or through an optional partner invitation. You can change your pace, rest or choose not to join an invitation. Every class is an opportunity to listen to your body and discover your own expression.

What to wear and bring

Wear comfortable, breathable clothing that lets you move freely. Light layers can help as you warm up. Bring water; a small towel or an extra shirt may also be useful.

We often dance barefoot. If you need supportive footwear, contact us before your class to confirm the venue’s floor and footwear requirements.

Before you arrive

Check the date, location, arrival time and booking information for your chosen class. Give yourself a few minutes to settle in before it begins.

Please avoid strong fragrances and come free from alcohol or other intoxicating substances. Bring yourself as you are, with respect for the shared space.

Your choices and boundaries

Partner work and group movement are invitations. You can decline, move alone or step aside. Consent applies to touch and participation. Respect another person’s choice without asking them to explain it.

Different ways to move

You can explore movement standing, seated, on the floor, from a chair or using a wheelchair. Invitations can be adapted to your comfort and capacity.

Venue access varies. Contact us before booking if you need details about entrances, stairs, lifts, restroom access, seating or other arrangements. We will help you check the information for the event you want to attend.

BEFORE YOUR FIRST WAVE

Common questions

Do I need to know how to dance?

No. You discover your own movement; there is no routine to learn.

Do I have to dance with someone else?

No. Partner invitations are optional, and you can continue moving on your own.

Can I sit or take a break?

Yes. You are encouraged to honor your body and your needs throughout the class.

Do I have to be barefoot?

Barefoot movement is common. If you need footwear, ask us about the requirements for your venue before attending.

What if I feel nervous?

You can begin gently. There is nothing you need to perform. Contact us beforehand if a practical question would help you feel more prepared.

What is the difference between a class and a workshop?

A class is a single opportunity to practice. A workshop explores a theme over more time and may have specific participation requirements. Read the individual event description before booking.
